Cashless Payment for Girl Scout Cookies

October 2nd, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Cashless Payment for Girl Scout CookiesBy now we’re all used to paying with credit cards at major stores and restaurants, and many of us have had the opportunity to use cashless payment at slightly more unusual locations such as vending machines and parking meters. Even so, when members of the local Girl Scout troop ring your doorbell to sell Tagalongs and Thin Mints, you probably don’t expect to be asked if you’d like to pay via credit card. But thousands of Girl Scout troops are starting to do exactly that.

The Girl Scouts joined the many organizations that are already reaping the benefits of cashless payment when they started accepting credit cards via mobile payment devices. These devices are small card readers that attach to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, allowing the girls to swipe credit cards to process transactions easily and quickly.

In an increasingly cashless society, this is a major boost for the cookie business as many potential customers have to turn down the treats because they’re not carrying any cash. The mobile credit card readers are especially beneficial for the Girl Scouts who set up shop outside of a large store, since customers in that situation are less likely to have cash on hand. And in addition to the boost in sales, the cashless payments are also safer for customers and for the Girl Scouts, since the girls no longer end up carrying large amounts of cash. The troops can even offer email receipts and easily view reports on their sales.

More than 40,000 troops are able to take advantage of credit card payments, and cashless payment has helped cookie transactions increase nearly fourfold – proof that offering cashless payment options is a great way to increase sales in any situation!

Now that you can get your Samoas without cash, what’s the next venue you’d like to see jump on the cashless payment bandwagon? Leave a comment and let us know!
