July 10th, 2012 at 10:00 am

On Thursday, June 21, 2012 hospitals and other organizations across New York State received some good news when the state’s Senate and Assembly passed a new bill for Section 193 of the New York State Labor Law allowing employers to make deductions from employees’ paychecks for things like discounted parking costs, certain mass transit costs, certain purchases from charities affiliated with the employer, gym membership dues, pharmacy purchases made at the employer’s place of business, tuition, room, and board payments for educational pursuits, day care costs, and more! Previously, state law only allowed payroll deduction for a small number of circumstances – like insurance payments and pension benefits. That law was originally meant […]

Cashless Festivals – Solutions at Festivals Offer More Than Just Cashless Transactions

July 3rd, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Cashless payment options are starting to crop up at events across the world – like the Olympics. Large events are often perfect settings for cashless payment, so it may not come as a surprise that many of those events are music festivals. However, the cashless solutions at these festivals offer more functionality than just cashless transactions – access control and cashless payment are rolled into one. These systems are designed using the wristbands that all festival attendees are already wearing. Traditional wristbands served only as a visual identifier of who was a paid ticketholder, but in recent years these have frequently been replaced by RFID wristbands. The chip in each […]

Cashless Vending Machines

June 26th, 2012 at 2:46 pm

In 2011, Google attempted to make a splash in the tech world with the release of Google Wallet, the first mainstream mobile wallet feature available in the United States. Google put a lot of effort into making the Wallet a success, but in the months since its inception, the Wallet has largely fallen short of expectations due to a number of circumstances. But don’t count out the Wallet just yet. In November, Google partnered with Coca-Cola to showcase how a mobile payment option can be used with the beverage giant’s new cashless vending machines. The two companies hosted simultaneous events in New York City and San Francisco to give people […]

Improving Cybersecurity

June 19th, 2012 at 2:33 pm

Security goes beyond physical security and access control – cybersecurity is important too, and companies have a responsibility to keep sensitive information safe and secure.  Proactive measures such as encrypting databases and installing antivirus software and firewalls can go a long way to keeping that data out of the wrong hands.  However, we continue to see news stories about major companies having their databases compromised.  Just a year ago, Sony had its Playstation and Qriocity networks hacked and its customers’ credit card and login information compromised.  Traditional security measures are becoming more and more obsolete, and even the companies that sell these security solutions cannot keep their own databases free […]

Does Cashless Payment Encourage More Spending?

June 12th, 2012 at 8:28 am

A lot of people find that paying for a purchase with cash causes them to feel more guilty about the cost. Paying with a credit or debit card makes it easier to spend the money without dwelling on the price – not always a good thing for consumers. But research has shown that this goes beyond our perception of the purchase; consumers actually spend more money with cashless payment options. Research conducted on the subject has shown that people will spend more money if the payment method is deemed “easier”. People will spend more when paying with a credit card than they will when they pay with cash. And this […]

Cashless Parking Meters

May 29th, 2012 at 4:12 pm

When you think of contactless or cashless payment opportunities, what comes to mind first? For some it might be the keychain tag used to buy gas or the transponder that allows you to zip through toll booths without fumbling for change. Others may think of cafés and fast food restaurants, retail stores, and banks. These are the more traditional locations where we expect to find cashless terminals or similar contactless payment options, but as contactless and cashless opportunities increase in popularity, many other uses for cashless payment appear. Parking meters are a prime example of a location that benefits from offering cashless payment options. Customers are frequently in a hurry […]

Banks Boarding the Contactless Train

May 22nd, 2012 at 10:39 am

With the contactless movement spreading, banks across the world have started taking measures to ensure they are not left behind. A number of banks in the United States and across the world already offer a number of contactless solutions to their customers, and that number is continually growing. Understandably, hosting the Olympic Games is a momentous event for the host nation, providing an incentive to build new facilities and improve the infrastructure of the host city and the surrounding cities that will be used as venues for the Olympic events. To this end, London will take the opportunity to host the first contactless Olympic Games. In light of this, British […]
